| The Wellington Airport Regional
Awards for the Kapiti Coast District were
presented to the various recipients in the
Waikanae Community Hall on October 15th 2008. The
Heritage & Environment category and Supreme
Award Winner was the Paekakariki Railway Station
Precinct Trust for its vision, commitment and
hard work in successfully completing the
restoration of the Category 1 heritage Signal Box
and seeing it safely returned to its original
position on the Paekakariki Railway Station.
The restoration of this small but significant
building is an example of what happens when
dedicated volunteers work with good leaders,
professional experts, generous funding agencies
and the support of the community to achieve a
worthwhile goal. the project has also been
nominated by the Historic Places trust for a
Conservation Award.
